Eichelberger Public Safety Scholarship
Overview
The Chief John Eichelberger Public Safety Scholarship awards $1,000 to four students who live in the Plainfield Fire Protection District (regardless of the applicant’s home high school).
The Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department gives the scholarship to honor former Fire Chief John Eichelberger who retired in 2015 after 40 years of dedicated service to the fire department.
Recipients will be chosen based on grades; financial need; and acceptance and proof of full-time enrollment at an acceptable institution.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Be a resident of The Plainfield Fire Protection District
Plan to major in the Fire Service, Public Safety, Medical or Emergency Services at a fully accredited state or private university or college (preferably in Illinois)
Maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5
Must be graduating in the current academic school year, and starting college in the immediate summer/fall
Additional requirements:
Complete the online application, which includes:
A copy of current transcript through the first semester of senior year
A letter of reference from a teacher or administrator
A personal statement of at least 500 words describing yourself and your interest in the Fire Service, Public Safety, Medical or Emergency Services. Include your professional goals and a description of your financial needs.
